PhotoArts Collector

For quite a while now many of my peers have suggested that I needed to begin writing a blog. “Nay,” I said. I told them that I barely know how to get a website up and going. Nonsense, they said. Anyone can do it. I am sure we have all heard that, before. Whenever I hear that phrase, I cringe. Mostly because I know that whatever it pertains to, I will have trouble doing it. Well, I guess I’ll have to jump in with both feet, anyway. Bear in mind, though, that PhotoArts Collector (PAC) will be a work in progress.

What I want to accomplish with this “tool,” is to open up a conversation about the marketing, collecting, promoting, and making of fine-art photography. Are you featured in galleries or museums? Have you sold work to a prestigious collector? Do you have a waiting list for your pictures? Are you just starting out? How do you market your work? Who does it for you? Do you do it yourself? What do collectors look for in buying photographs? What do galleries want? How can you get your foot in the door of a museum? Do you work in video as well? Do you write about photography? Why is it so difficult to market certain genres of photography? What is “hot” now?

These are just a few of the questions we will be asking at PhotoArts Collector. It is simply a beginning. It will be up to you to move it forward. Don’t be shy… you know you want to comment.

Even though I initially wanted PAC to be about me (I guess that’s why it was so difficult to start!), it should be all about you. So, let me know what you think, and where you want this to go.
